Course Description

The Welding program at the Tennessee Technology Center at Whiteville is a first class program that is second to none. The instructor is a Certified Welding Inspector with the American Welding Society as well as a Certified Welding Educator with almost 40 years of experience. The equipment is new, modern, and up to date. Students spend time in the classroom where they learn the fundamentals of welding, the equipment used, the different types of metals to be welded, the different welding processes, with a large emphasis on blueprint reading.

In the shop students experience the hands on training using several different welding processes that will prepare them to become a professional welder with the abilities to gain employment almost anywhere a welder is needed. Students learn gas tungsten arc (tig) welding and pipe welding, both which are highly skilled areas and are in greater demand.  Whether on an oil rig in the gulf, in a nuclear plant, on a pipeline, or any type of fabrication, aluminum welding, refineries, plant maintenance, or production welding, a student that applies themselves will graduate with the skills necessary to fill these positions. These welding jobs pay outstanding wages and industry is in great need for qualified welders.

When a student has completed the course and ready to graduate they take several welding tests that are sent off to be x-rayed at a testing facility. These are some of the same welding tests that will be given by industry for the above welding positions. Twenty-three out of the last twenty- four test coupons were accepted. You will not find a 96% pass rate anywhere except in Whiteville.
