Residential Electrian Technology

  

            The new residential electrician program being offered at TTC at Whiteville will be composed of three Units of Study (three terms); each unit of study will be of 432 hours in length.  The first unit of study for Term 1 covers the electricity core concepts of D.C. and A.C. theory.  Work ethics, technology foundations and electrical safety are also emphasized.  The exit award for this term is the Electrician Helper Certificate.

            Term 2 will be made up of actually performing the tasks of the trade as required by the National Electrical Code.  The trainee will complete intensive training in general electrical installations as well as wiring methods, including residential service installations.  The exit award for Term 2 is an Electrical Apprentice Certificate.

            Term 3 will encompass residential electrician blueprint reading, service calculations, low voltage systems (home fire and security systems) electrical appliance wiring methods and service installations, and Local, State & National Electrical Codes (NEC) examination prep.  The graduate will be recommended for testing to receive an LLE certificate this will enable the electrician to bid on electrical work that does not exceed $25,000.  The exit award for Term 3 is the Residential Electrician Diploma (1296 hours).

            The instructor for the new Residential Electrician Technology program offered at the Tennessee Technology Center at Whiteville is James Moss. He has a State of Tennessee Limited Licensed Electrician certificate (LLE) and possesses a Journeyman electrician’s license from the city of Jackson Tn.
